Annotation. The sustainable development of the region is ensured, first of all, by the balance between the factors of socio-economic and natural-ecological development. Sustainable development of the region presupposes, as is well known, a balanced use of environmental, economic and social factors. This scientific study examines the main approaches to achieving sustainable development goals within the framework of the regional economy, examines the main definitions of sustainable development in the region and describes the factors influencing the processes of sustainable development. The purpose of the scientific work is to identify the existing socio – economic imbalances in the context of sustainable development of the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan based on the analysis of macroeconomic indicators. Since the object of the study of the adaptation of regions to sustainable development is the socio-economic potential of the region, the use of which is determined by the course of reforming the economy of the republic as a whole, the authors calculated the regional coefficient of adaptation to sustainable development. Determining the degree of adaptation of regions to the requirements of sustainable development is one of the complex problems that require a combination of both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Statistical and comparative methods of economic analysis were used in the study, which made it possible to identify trends in sustainable development. Based on the conducted economic analysis, certain imbalances have been identified that have a negative impact.
